Our weddings & parties designer shares her tropical-wedding ideas, including the secret to perfect beach hair, a floral wetsuit and a Brooklyn-made flower crown.

THE ACCESSORY

Flower crown by Saipua

“Always a gorgeous finishing touch.”

THE CAKE

Billy’s Bakery coconut cake

“It’s SO good—beach wedding or not!”

FOR THE GROOMSMEN

Ludlow suit in Italian cotton piqué

“My friend Liz and her husband Michael, got married last spring in Hawaii. The groomsmen wore these sharp navy Ludlow suits—that they’ll definitely wear again.”

THE BEAUTY TRICK

Sachajuan™ ocean mist

“The secret to perfect I-just-got-back-from-the-beach waves.”

THE KEEPSAKE

An engraved locket

“There is nothing better than having your sweetheart’s initials engraved on a delicate heart. I wear my husband’s name on a gold necklace that I never take off.”

THE DECOR

Split-leaf philodendron

“The name is a mouthful (it’s also known as a Swiss cheese plant), but it’s a favorite of Tracy’s, our head prop stylist. It makes a cameo in lots of our wedding shoots.”

THE HONEYMOON GETUP

Cynthia Rowley® wetsuit

“This wetsuit is reason enough to take up surfing on your honeymoon.”

THE INVITE

Calligraphy by Laurel Writes

“There is something so heartwarming about a handwritten invitation. And if you don’t have beautiful handwriting, enlist an expert! Laurel Russo is based out of Brooklyn and has a whimsical style.”

THE REGISTRY

The Apartment by The Line

“The chicest, most pared-back items for the home.”

Chambly Capitole 5-piece setting.

THE DRESS

Sequin plume gown

“It’s covered in sequin flowers but still feels light and breezy enough for a beach wedding.”

On location at the New York Botanical Garden.

THE COCKTAIL

Floyd Swem margarita from the Royal Palms Shuffleboard Club

“Insert beach view here.”

Recipe

FLOYD SWEM MARGARITA

One of our favorite throwback spots in South Brooklyn, the Royal Palms Shuffleboard Club is known as much for its colorful cocktails as it is for its kitschy decor. Bartender Tim Judge let us in on one of his favorite recipes (named after the author who wrote "the book" on shuffleboard technique).
INGREDIENTS
3/4 oz. lime juice
Salt (for rim of glass)
1 1/2 oz. Dulce Vida organic reposado tequila
1/2 oz. Clockwork Orange liqueur
1 oz. blood orange juice
1/2 oz. simple syrup

DIRECTIONS
Dip the rim of a glass into the lime juice and salt. Shake all ingredients in a cocktail shaker. Pour into prepared glass. Add ice and garnish with a lime wedge.
