Designer Marysia Reeves invited us into her LA home and studio, where she opened up about her cult swimwear line, her favorite local spots and her first meeting with Jenna.

A mood board for the Marysia collection in her Santa Monica studio includes a custom brushstroke print by her friend and artist Sally King Benedict and outtakes from a recent lookbook shoot.

“I lifeguarded and practiced ballet as a kid, so I’ve spent a lot of time in a bathing suit or a leotard. I felt like designing a swim line was what I could do best. Plus, the water is such an important part of my life. (I’m an Aquarius.)”

“The Antibes bandeau started the scallop trend for me. I didn’t think much of it at the time. I was just sketching and designing. I think it became such a success because of the fit… It’s just perfect.”

“I have hands-on experience as a woman and as a mama. I know that moms need suits they can chase after their kids in. I know younger girls want to show off their cute bodies. I know women want comfort and support. I’ve been many different sizes with my two pregnancies, and I think about all the different types of women who might wear my creations.”

“Meeting Jenna was one of my favorite New York moments. I was about to go up five flights of stairs from the subway with my
five-week-old daughter in a stroller when Jenna swooped in to help me carry it. I later found an email address for her assistant and sent her a thank-you note. She got back to me and loved my line, and here we are now!”

Los Angeles

The LA-based designer gives us a few of her must-sees/must-dos around town—little ones in tow.

Kreation Kafe & Juicery

1202 Abbot Kinney Blvd.
Kreation is our favorite healthy spot… We eat there at least twice a day. It has the most amazing strawberry yogurt made from almond milk, chia seeds and raw honey.

Superba Food + Bread

1900 S. Lincoln Blvd.
Superba is great for a weekend breakfast. The cheesy eggs are so yummy.

First Point Malibu

We love First Point Malibu for our beach excursions. Café Habana nearby makes my favorite kale salad. And there is a J.Crew right next to it. :)

Santa Barbara Zoo

500 Ninos Dr.
The Santa Barbara Zoo is one of our favorite places to visit with the girls.

YAS Yoga

1101 Abbot Kinney Blvd.
YAS Yoga has been our yoga place for 12 years.
