We came across this “fashion takeover” of our ad, above, on Michael’s colorful Instagram feed and
loved it so much we regrammed it. “I was completely surprised by that,” he says. “I thought maybe
J.Crew would be upset.”
THE CREATIVE PROCESS
How Michael describes his artistic inclinations: “I’m someone who doesn’t like to sit back and let the
world operate around me—I’m much more interested in participating and tampering with things.”

Michael was given this key (which opens every outdoor ad display in NYC), above, bottom right, by guerrilla art collective Public Access in 2015. “I also used it in Paris and Amsterdam this year.”
WEARABLE WORKS OF ART
One of the paintings Michael created especially for our collaboration, above, bottom right. “I’ve always wanted people to enjoy and experience my work in a variety of ways,” he says. “With fashion, people can touch and wrap themselves in my art.”
