@work with Saeed Jabbar of Inclusion

As part of our Style Your Success series with WeWork and LinkedIn, we’re talking to and getting inspired by a few entrepreneurs across the country. Here, Saeed Jabbar—founder and executive director of Inclusion and member of WeWork in Queens, New York—tells us about about start-up style, Bulletproof Coffee and the life-changing power of learning to code.

WHAT YOU DO:
I’m a founder of Inclusion, which teaches people from underserved communities across New York City how to code and empowers them with skills to get meaningful employment in this information economy. We recruit deeply in the communities that we serve and instead of going in there and imposing our view, we listen to the needs of the people that we're serving. I grew up in Jamaica, Queens, and was fortunate enough to be involved with the tech industry very early on. I saw what people in my community didn't have and how important these skills were to them.

YOUR WORK STYLE IN THREE WORDS:
Rebellious, almost anarchist.

WHAT YOU WEAR TO A BIG CLIENT MEETING:

I’m always true to myself, so I’ll wear what’s comfortable for the day. If I really want to dress up, I’ll just throw a dark blue blazer on with a grey
T-shirt and black jeans. True
start-up wear!

COFFEE ORDER:
I do the Bulletproof Coffee thing. I put butter and Brain Octane Oil in the coffee and blend it up. It helps with sustained energy over time.

WHAT YOU'RE "IN IT" FOR:
To end the digital divide.
THE BEST THING ABOUT YOUR JOB:
Just the ability to transform lives across the board. People in the nonprofit space are obsessed about metrics and measuring outcomes, but you can’t quantify the joy that someone has in moving up the ladder, getting a better apartment and a car and being able to take care of their family.

ULTIMATE WORK JAM:
Growing up in New York City, of course hip-hop is in my DNA. And I’m a huge trance fan. So I like anyone from Armin van Buuren to A$AP Ferg, A-Boogie. It’s very eclectic.

ADVICE YOU'D GIVE YOUR YOUNGE SELF:
Self-awareness is so key, given all the distractions we have. Social media, our parents, the government, all these things. But you have to dig deep in yourself and really find out who you are and be true to yourself.

THE BEST THING ABOUT THE WEWORK COMMUNITY:
The ability to scale our organization, host successful events, and most importantly meet lifelong friends all within the WeWork ecosystem.
